Description
The development of a new standardized fabrication process of low-cost ridge-waveguide 4.6µm Quantum Cascade Lasers capable of producing multi-watt continuous wave optical power in a nearly Gaussian beam (M2<1.5) with efficiency exceeding 10%, i.e. with performance comparable to that for state-of-the-art buried heterostructure QCLs is proposed. The dramatic reduction in price/watt will benefit a very diverse set of critical DoD applications, including DIRCM, infrared beacons, , and free space optical communications.
