Description
The Missile Defense Agency is constantly developing state-of-the-art anti-ballistic missile defense technologies and maintaining a constellation of defense platforms, known as Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) to provide ultimate national security. BMDS consists of networked sensors for detection and tracking, interceptor missiles for destroying threats, and a Command Control Battle Management and Communications network. Large number of factors affect BMDS performances: particular starting locations of attacking missiles, positions of sensors and accuracy of sensor information, scheduling of interceptors’ launch, performances of military personnel etc. Extremely large number of possible combinations between parameters, affecting BMDS makes it difficult to obtain comprehensive statistical assessment of its performances. Practical alternative for real tests of BMDS are computer simulations. The Agent-Based Simulations (ABS) approach was proven to be extremely useful for simulations of missile defense operations, which can address not only the problem of interactions between different hardware components of BMDS but also could simulate human behavior by introduction of human-representing agents into ABS. Therefore, The focus of this proposal is to develop scalable software solution for Monte Carlo ABS capable to simulate multiple simultaneous weapon engagements and consider variations of Tactics Techniques, and Procedures under different scenarios.
