Description

Terahertz communication is anticipated to provide ultra-high capacity links up to 1Tbps. Thus, Terahertz communication is promising to support wide varieties of emerging high throughput and low latency applications, including military applications. However, the Terahertz channel suffers from severe path loss and is highly sensitive to obstacles. Hence, novel solutions should be designed to account for the challenges of the Terahertz channel. In particular, link and network layer protocols for Terahertz communications have not yet been explored. Thus, there is need to design novel link and network layer protocols in order to realize communications at the Terahertz band. To address this critical need, Intelligent Automation Incorporated (IAI) proposes the design and implementation of TeraNet: A Wideband Terahertz Communication Network. The key innovation of TeraNet is intelligent link and network layer protocols that support reliable communication at the Terahertz band. The TeraNet protocols will account for the unique characteristics and associated challenges when transmitting over the Terahertz band. The performance of the proposed TeraNet protocols will be assessed mainly in terms the end-to-end throughput, for the purpose of validating the high capacity promised by Terahertz communication.
