Description
Energetic Charged Particle (ECP) sensors for future US Air Force satellites need to be calibrated but current linear accelerators are large, expensive, and over-subscribed. Lynntech will adapt a proprietary benchtop linear accelerator to provide ECP calibration. We will determine if the current magnetic lens will provide sufficient beam quality or if quadrupoles are required. Modification of the magnetic coil geometry and strength will be investigated to focus and collimate the beam. Computational analysis will be used to provide a “proof of conceptâ€, and a prototype will be designed to be built in Phase II. The use of existing technology significantly reduces development time while the addition of state-of-the-art magnetic nozzle equipment provides new capabilities.
