Description

Small arms engagement is critical to tactical success in a variety of battlefield scenarios. Improving soldier capability in small arms engagement scenarios is therefore critical to ensuring overall mission success. As such, the Army is seeking solutions to improving a soldier’s capability to deliver rapid, precise fire. An external solution to this problem involves being able to reliably track small arms fire. The capability to track small arms fire in this manner can ultimately be used to improve accuracy, enhancing soldier capability and lethality. Furthermore, tracking in this manner may preclude the need for tracer rounds, eliminating their inherent disadvantages on the battlefield (i.e., preventing revealing shooter position). In the Phase I, Lynntech proposes to investigate tracking capabilities of small arms fire, evaluating overall capabilities including size, weight, and power requirements.  To support this effort, Lynntech will leverage previously developed electro-optical tracking capabilities developed for precision fire in sniper rifles. It is the intent to develop a size, weight, power, and cost-effective technology which is conducive to rapid, easily deployment and compatible with next-generation fire control systems.
