Description

The objective of SBIR topic CBD192-002 is to develop a system for on-site decontamination of personal gear and equipment that is self-contained and transportable. The system is intended for use in field locations where JP-8 is the only available energy source. The system should be capable of broad-spectrum chemical and biological decontamination, as demonstrated by neutralization of simulants for HD, VX, and Bacillus anthracis (Ba). Specifically, the decontamination method must demonstrate a 4-log reduction in chemical agents and a 6-log reduction in biological agents in less than eight hours without compromising the functionality of sensitive equipment. In the Phase I program, METSS will demonstrate a prototype system that meets or exceeds these objectives. The prototype decontamination kit will include a commercial chlorine dioxide (ClO2) generation system that is optimized to achieve the decontamination objectives with minimal impact to personal gear and sensitive equipment. The system will be demonstrated as both a small man-portable system, as well as a larger system for simultaneous decontamination of gear from multiple Service members.
