Description
In response to the N201-001 SBIR solicitation (“Broadband for Photonic Receiver”), MaXentric proposes COMBAT (Compact Omnidirectional Multi-octave Broadband Antenna Technology), a broadband antenna element that is capable of meeting the bandwidth, gain, and pattern specifications and has the additional benefits of having omnidirectional radiation with a tailored elevation profile. COMBAT operates from low frequency to 80 GHz, with up to 4 antennas occupying the same physical space of less than 1 ft cube. COMBAT offers a lightweight solution close to 10-20 lbs with more than +/- 45 deg field of view and better than 1 dB gain variation across each octave. Phase I effort focuses on demonstrating feasibility of the broadband antenna concept that can be integrated with a photonic receiver and vehicle-mounted EWS through modeling, simulation, and eventually a scaled feasibility demonstration. A development plan for Phase II with performance goals and key milestones will be presented at the end of Phase I. Based on the trade study and analysis performed in Phase I, a full performance COMBAT antenna will be developed and implemented in Phase II.
