Description

A dependable and versatile energy storage system is needed for use in a 6T battery configuration.  This Technical volume contains a detailed description of McCormick Stevenson’s (MCCST) approach to the problem proposed.  The document describes a segmented process that McCormick Stevenson will follow to complete the research effort and provide detailed deliverables to measure the progress.  Highlighting the trades between inverter technology with a spotlight on the capabilities of Gallium Nitride and the feasibility of integration into a lithium-ion 6T battery platform, McCormick Stevenson will work with subcontractor Aeronix to propose a reliable and operationally flexible Portable, AC-DC Energy Source (PADES) with applications in support of Soldier Lethality, Communications, and Next Generation Combat Vehicles (NGCV).  The MCCST team will be led by a Principal Investigator Matthew Gaines, who has over 10 years of experience in battery design and manufacturing.  MCCST also has a Ph.D. level Battery Subject Matter Expertise (SME) with over 28 years of battery development experience, especially in the lithium-ion sector of technology that will be used on this effort.  Aeronix, McCormick Stevenson’s partner in this effort, has years of experience developing embedded electronics along with battery management systems for major Battery manufacturers for the DoD.  Together our partnership will ensure the most effective approach to delivering an energy storage system that meets the requirements specified.
