Description

One-Cycle Control, Inc. (OCC) will create a power-dense SiC OCC-Power Conditioning Surge Module (OCC-PCSM) to enable military generators to support non-linear loads and power surges up to 125% of rated power for 3 to 5 seconds. OCC-PCSM combines proven OCC Active Power Filter (OCC-APF) and OCC Peak Load Regulator (OCC-PLR) functions to deliver Power Factor Correction, Harmonic Cancellation, and Peak Load Shaving. OCC-APF functionality also load balances the 3 phases. With OCC-PCSM, the generator only need supply balanced average power with a clean sinusoidal load current with power factor ~0.99, while being shielded from rapid dynamic load transients. This enables users to right-size generators according to average load rather than peak load to achieve improved efficiency, greater capacity, and higher reliability. Mitigating load transients also improves microgrid stability. Phase II builds upon successful execution of Phase I where the OCC team demonstrated essential OCC-PCSM functions at the target power and duration. During Phase II, OCC will: (1) complete detailed electrical/mechanical design of the OCC-PCSM, (2) build / test the first ruggedized prototype OCC-PCSM, and (3) deliver two ruggedized prototype OCC-PCSMs for Army testing.
