Description
PCI proposes to design and develop a robust, drop-in replacement, augmented glow plug for continuous ignition assistance of low cetane fuels to improve operational capability in extreme environments within the combustion chamber of a target UAV compression ignition (CI) engine. Based upon novel catalytic coatings and catalytic geometries to enhance performance and increase durability, the technology offers multiple notable advances for engine operation including stable combustion, enabled repeatable cold-start, required lower electrical energy during startup, and stable operation at high-altitude conditions. Key innovations of integrating catalysts with conventional glow plugs and integration of catalytic glow plugs into a small, high power density intermittent combustion engine operating with heavy fuels will be explored.
