Description

Modern weapons platforms are complex, expensive, and often require operation and design that pushes the envelope of technology. These expensive systems operate in harsh operating conditions where wear and tear are substantial and limited manpower and materiel resources are available to maintain and repair them. The Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDC) Aviation Materiel Command (AvMC) Logistics Engineering Lab (LogLab) has developed a sustainment simulation capability for Army aviation using a government-owned software tool called System of Systems Analysis Tool (SOSAT). The purpose of this capability is to provide simulation-based analysis as potential inputs to major acquisition documents to multiple Program Managers (PMs). The proposed Logistics and Sustainment Simulation Optimization (LASSO) tool will provide a technical solution that builds upon the existing tools used by the LogLab to provide optimization and advanced analysis of simulated scenarios covering a wide range of potential outcomes. The LASSO tool will utilize advanced software architectures to provide a suite of customizable tools which include: a user interface allowing LogLab engineers to easily tune the simulation to reach desired levels of notable metrics, a machine learning and optimization module that will allow automatic optimization of input parameters, and an analytics capability that allows simulation outputs to be automatically processed into usable analysis packages (graphs, tables, charts, etc). The problem space will be studied, the proposed LASSO solution will be designed, and a proof of concept will be demonstrated in Phase I, while the tool will be fully developed and polished in Phases II and III.
