Description
As early legacy system Cloud migration efforts have shown, a simple ‘lift and shift’ approach to migrating a legacy system to the Cloud is wholly inadequate. The result is simply recreating the existing legacy IT ‘stove-piped’ systems – with all their inherent costs, risks inefficiencies and inadequacies –in a Cloud environment. In most cases, it will be far more advantageous to refactor certain components of an application to take advantage of native Cloud capabilities or to redevelop them entirely. However, the overall goal should be to focus on identifying critical ‘capabilities’ (not systems) and implementing those on a proven common Cloud platform. The Air Force needs to rethink the way in which it delivers capability. Our SBIR Phase I project intends to help the Air Force do just that. The objective of Segue’s SBIR Phase I proposal is to work closely with a Prime Air Force customer responsible for a portfolio of business systems and tasked with determining a way forward strategy for cloud migration. We will identify a specific legacy set of capabilities and demonstrate a methodology to migrate those capabilities to a commercial cloud development platform. The result will be a defined, repeatable legacy system, cloud migration process.
