Description
Shared Spectrum Company’s Smart Access Frequency Exploitation (SAFE) combines a spectrum use constraint policy language and reasoner, Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA), and Automatic Link Establishment (ALE) that is ideal for rapid deployment, contingency operations. SSC’s SAFE radio’s operating frequency is controlled by a ‘policy reasoner’ located on the radio. The reasoner compares evidence (spectrum sensing results, radio location, time of day, transmit power, etc.) to constraints to determine the list of the current allowable frequencies. The SAFE policy-based architecture that gives mission planners flexibility to adapt waveform functionality to specific mission objectives and target environment (e.g., combat, training, CONUS, International, Disaster Response). Frequency use definition includes a Brigade-wide spectrum allocation (i.e., spectrum pooling), prohibited “keep out” frequency ranges as well as opportunistic use of both licensed and unlicensed frequencies. Spectrum policies are defined with domains of applicability so that SAFE access to specific frequencies can differ by geographic location or time. This flexibility simplifies frequency planning for the Mission Planner. SSC’s DSA technology is an embedded software solution for enabling existing and future radio technologies to be DSA agile. The DSA Core combines advanced spectrum sensing algorithms, signal classification algorithms, network collaboration protocols, and efficient data management models with an extensible rule-based reasoning and processing engine to rapidly establish, maintain, and adjust wireless networks in the presence of other, potentially disrupting, radio technologies. SSC has almost 20 years of spectrum sharing experience and is a leading provider of Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) technology to the DoD. SSC has extensive experience with DoD communication systems based on multiple DSA porting projects. SSC has a DoD SECRET facility clearance. Ihsan Akbar, Principal Investigator, has extensive knowledge of wireless communications physical and MAC layer system design of public safety P25 and LTE systems. Ihsan has a Ph.D. and M.S. in EE from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Ihsan has > 13 relevant publications.
