Description

Understanding the end-to-end performance of mission command applications executing on airborne networks under realistic operational conditions is critical for mission assurance. Understanding and mitigating any shortfalls in application performance can provide significant value to our warfighters and directly save lives. To meet this objective, the performance of the Live, Virtual, Constructive (LVC) environment must be optimized to support rapid analysis and comprehensive assessment of network performance in support of future mission concepts of operation. In this Phase II effort, we will enhance the current airborne networking LVC environment model by incorporating performance optimizations and enhancements, including scenario-specific partitioning, StatsDB redesign and refactoring, and a Non-IP Ethernet Frame interface. We will also develop interface models for the external time control object and add support for multiple MAC models on a single physical interface interface to enable implementation of Multiple Independent Levels of Security (MILS). These enhancements will enable more efficient and comprehensive future airborne network modeling, simulation and emulation.  The enhanced LVC environment model will better represent the operation of the airborne networks under a variety of scale, mobility, terrain, environmental and tactical operating conditions that may be difficult and cost prohibitive to realize using live assets.  The enhancements will also support an interface to live equipment and provide expanded constructive MIDS JTRS capabilities.
