Description
The Navy requires an ultra-wide frequency range antenna operable from DC to a 20 GHz threshold and DC to greater than 80 GHz. Toyon proposes to design a single connector multiple-component antenna that combines two previously developed designs to target all desired frequencies. For the higher frequencies, the solution will incorporate an omni-directional bicone component estimated to operate between 400 MHz to 80 GHz. The lower-frequency component will utilize a monopole design to cover frequencies below 400 MHz. The vertical dimensions of any antenna dictate the lowest frequency of efficiency and gain, therefore the monopole would need to be tall. Toyon plans for a one connector solution depending on transmit power and maximum frequency. A 20-GHz maximum frequency output connector is the obvious choice to jam IED threats and Ku band radars with a single-connector solution. Existing 80 GHz output connectors limit the transmit power of the antenna to a few watts. Hence, Toyon is proposing dual-port connector design for high-transmit power at the high-end of the desired frequency band.
