Description
In this Phase I effort, Triton Systems Inc. will focus on providing Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) battlefield airmen (BA) with a high performance, energy-dense power source for extended runtime on dismounted missions. We will develop and test an advanced anode in full-cell configurations vs. a standard cathode with different electrolyte formulations to optimize battery anode/cathode/electrolyte combinations for military use and safety. By the end of the Phase I effort, we will demonstrate feasibility of our advanced anode battery to meet the performance target of: Specific energy >400 Whr/kg at C/5 discharge rate, cycle life of >250 cycles at 80 percent capacity, wide operational temperature range (-30oC to 49oC) with varying humidity conditions (0% to 100%), ability to operate up to a 2C continuous discharge rate, and able to be stored over a wide temperature range (-40oC to +70oC).
