Description

Forward Airbases and FARPs may be a harsh environment for aircraft and personnel as a result of foreign object debris on active surfaces. To improve flight operations efficiency and airfield reliability, there is a need for new technology and procedures to provide more expedient and durable means of debris removal. Further, any debris removal system needs to be flexible to work in austere conditions and remove debris from a variety and condition of surfaces. During Phase I, Triton will develop concepts that meet the operational requirements requested in the project solicitation. Feasibility demonstration of the concepts to meet Marine Corps needs (by material testing and analytical modelling) and establishment that these concepts can be developed into a useful system for the Marine Corps. In Phase II, Triton will further refine the designs from Phase I and build a scaled prototype system for full characterization during Phase II. Triton will use evaluation results to further refine the FOD removal/relocation system to meet Marine Corps requirements and develop a plan to transition the technology to Marine Corps use.
