Description
We will demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed ground test facility for material testing under relevant hypersonic environments in a range of Mach 5-20. We will prepare high-temperature material samples, which will be exposed to a simulated hypersonic environment while collecting a variety of in situ data. The post-exposure samples will then be analyzed using traditional methods for comparison to and correlation with the in situ data. Finally, we will design a Phase II ground test facility focused on materials testing. This program will provide a strong proof-of-principle for described approach and will support further development in a Phase II program.
