Description
Vadum and North Carolina State University will develop Radio Disruption of Electronic Systems (RADES) to deliver standoff denial of swarming adversary unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Novel RADES waveforms bypass common jamming mitigation techniques by exploiting a widened attack surface of fundamental electronic hardware vulnerabilities in UAS. Integrated with a software-defined radio (SDR) on a small UAS (Class 1 or 2), Vadum RADES provides a complete, rapid-response, mobile electronic attack countermeasure to disrupt enemy UAS and deny enemy mission capability within the protected airspace. RADES capability arises by targeting inherent RF hardware vulnerabilities of command electronics that cannot be easily hardened instead of jamming communications protocols. This efficient approach enables low size, weight, and power suitable for small UAS deployment while maintaining electronic denial at a range of over 1 km using less than 1 kW average power and response time of a few milliseconds.
