Description
Fast Steering Mirrors (FSM) capable of high bandwidth (5kHz) and Low Size, Weight and Power (SWaP) are required for HEL weapons systems aboard high performance aircraft. ATA is proposing to design, develop and test a 5-kHz bandwidth, low SWaP FSM to meet this requirement. ATA will leverage its previous laser communication work and expertise in developing a 2.5kHz FSM. We intend to develop a new actuation approach utilizing existing hardware, including higher force actuators and low latency electronics to evaluate the highest risk technology. This approach provides the best opportunity to develop an actuator design which can meet the high torque needed for the higher bandwidth loop. Using this approach, we intend to develop a proof of concept hardware (actuator) in Phase I.
