Description

While relatively infrequent, aviation mishaps can be devastating due to the high probability of loss of life and financial ramifications of such events. Factors such as spatial disorientation and lack of situational awareness are known root causes to aviation mishaps and, unfortunately, training for coping with such factors is generally lacking. To work towards a solution of this significant challenge, the Aptima team proposes to develop a Mishap Awareness Scenario Training for Ensuring Readiness (MASTER). The result will be a tool that allows Naval aviation instructors to create mishap scenarios from realistic data or through intuitive creation tools and will provide multiple methods for media export. The MASTER system will enhance training efficacy by providing multiples methods of immersive mishap replay along with a dedicated plan for evaluating the effectiveness of various training media. An Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) will also be performed to examine the best possible methods for training delivery. In summary, the anticipated components of the proposed system will work to streamline scenarios authoring and provide revised training for typical aviation mishap factors through immersive and realistic training scenarios.
