Description
United States Air Force (USAF) squadrons and agencies are increasingly finding need for Internet of Things (IoT) technology. Although revolutionizing daily life in the private sector, it has struggled to gain traction in government agencies. Many programs are actively seeking to incorporate IoT in their missions, but the path to implement, accredit, and deploy this technology lacks clarity and efficiency. Aptima’s solution to this problem is IRONPIPE: the Interoperable Resilient Operations Network for Proficient IoT Performance and Efficiency. IRONPIPE provides IoT innovators, and by extension their government end users, with a reusable, standards-based hardware-software developers’ kit for implementing novel IoT applications. The goal is to ensure efficient development and mitigated deployment risk for government IoT applications. This innovative approach contains three aspects. First, the IoT Device/Gateway Layer utilizes FIPS 140-2 certified components required to position vendors for immediate government utilization without requiring additional development spirals to meet government standards. Second, a Remote Services Layer runs a pre-built, containerized cloud system image with pre-defined government security controls. Third, tools are incorporated intended to help validate the integrity of the pre-developed system core upon IoT product release, thereby expediting the Authority to Operate (ATO) process with Authorizing Official representatives.
