Description

The Department of Defense has a large inventory of spy aircraft and battlefield sensors, platforms which generate avalanches of data of all types. Access to more data seems useful; however, every piece of data is not actually useful “information.” Operationally, intelligence analysts are drowning in data. When they seek to define normal patterns of life, and identify when deviations occur, they are not able to easily locate relevant information and effectively reformat it into intelligible reports. In response to this problem, Aptima proposes Analytics for Federated Data (ALFRED) Tool for Human Efficiency: Behavior and Updates Tracker for Learning Expectations and Relevance (THE BUTLER). ALFRED THE BUTLER continuously monitors user activities, tasking, and preferences, in conjunction with available data from varied sources to (1) learn what information users need for given tasking, (2) anticipate those needs as tasks progress and change, and (3) recommend relevant information to the user in a useful and actionable format. ALFRED THE BUTLER improves the efficiency and efficacy of intelligence analysts by using state of the art recommendation practices and analyst-inspired capabilities to identify and organize relevant information and provide assistance in creating intelligence products within the current PED process.
