Description
We propose to study and develop a laser-based detection technique, which will result in creation of a hand-portable field measurement system for the rapid detection of trace metals in aviation turbine and ground fuels. Spectral characterization of the trace metals and fuels will be performed, and algorithms developed which process the data to provide high sensitivity detection and concentration analysis of trace metals in fuel samples. The detected spectral fingerprint of the sample will be used to identify elemental species. A conceptual model for a ruggedized, small, field ready instrument that utilizes this technique will be described.
