Description
Carver Scientific Inc. (CSi) is developing a mobile self-contained integrated MicroClimate Heating and Cooling (MCHC) device for dismounted operator use that will be integrated with CSi’s lightweight Entropic Energy Storage Device (EESD). The EESD is intended to power the MCHC for a 72-hour mission. During the initial Phase II work, CSi proved feasibility of the MCHC product by developing several generations of its cooling capability through improvements in the air dispersion garment’s airflow, as well as increased the efficiency of the micro-blower with better controls. Also, a new wicking fabric that serves as an inactive (i.e. no power required) enhancement to the cooling side of the product has been adopted into the contract. Additionally, CSi and its sub-contractors will incorporate a lightweight, low power, electronic PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) torso heater that can be integrated into the vest or serve as a stand-alone heating product. CSi is entering a transition phase for the MCHC and continues to research and develop its energy storage products so they will be ready to transition to commercialization. This STTP initiative provides the additional funds to increase the TRL and MRL required for product commercialization.
