Description
We propose to design, source and prepare for manufacture a functional textile that improves Soldier hand dexterity using indirect heat applied to the forearm. Our proposed solution uses a number of novel materials to provide suitable system efficiency, efficacy, and safety, including a heating element that internally provides for a set-point temperature. Our innovative approach eliminates the need for external, closed-loop temperature and current regulation, and employs state-of-the-art power storage and supply technologies that are puncture safe and waterproof, thereby increasing system resilience. Our approach also draws on the expertise of our team and suppliers, who have a wide range of experience designing, manufacturing, and going to market in the functional textiles space. This Dexterity Enhancing Functional Textile (DEFT) system, worn alone or under existing clothing systems such as the Extended Cold Weather Clothing System (ECWCS), will improve the abilities and comfort of the Soldier in cold environments.
