Description
Batteries have become a necessity in the field of battle. Soldiers often carry over 30 lbs. of batteries to run the required equipment for dismounted missions, and solider power demands are still growing. Current rechargeable battery solutions such as the BB-2590 are bulky, difficult to pack, weigh over 3 lbs. each, and present significant safety challenges upon ballistic impact. Conformal battery solutions improve the ability to pack and carry portable power but may add weight due to their case form factor. Multifunctional battery packs enable weight reduction by providing case materials with dual functions. Cornerstone Research Group Inc. (CRG) proposes to develop a SAPI Conformal Battery to meet the Air Force’s operational needs for lightweight, impact resistant, soldier-portable energy storage.
