Description

Corvid Technologies, LLC (Corvid) proposes to integrate topology optimization (TO) software with a time-resolved, finite element (FE) solver in order to optimize new perforating warheads. Corvid will employ a multi-stage development and application process in order to better represent capture the transient phenomena in the penetrating warhead problem and converge the optimization fidelity with that found in the physical problem. Phase I development will focus on implementing transient capability by incorporating time-varying loads into the optimization process. Once the time-varying load capability has been implemented, Corvid will benchmark the method against examples in literature and use the developed capability to optimize a penetrating warhead. To evaluate the structural survivability the optimized design, Corvid will run a full high-fidelity computational physics (HFCP) simulation of the warhead penetrating three concrete panels and compare the results against an HFCP simulation of warheads optimized with traditional, static methods to inform viability of the proposed capability.
