Description

The U.S. Army has a requirement for a shaped charge warhead that can maintain its penetration capability while spinning. The current solution, a linear fluted liner, is optimal over a narrow band of spin rates compared to the span of rates experienced by a typical spin-stabilized munition over its effective range. To increase performance on target, a solution that is effective over a larger range is desired. The goal of this effort is to prototype and test two of the best performing spin compensation concepts determined through the use of an innovative high-fidelity computational physics-based optimization method demonstrated in Phase I. The best overall performing design will be integrated into the M430A1 tactical configuration and tested to verify flight stability as well as warhead penetration performance. Corvid will work with transition partner American Ordnance to ensure the final design is compatible with the existing 40mm production facility at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. At the end of Phase II, a Technology Readiness Level of 6 will be established through testing.
