Description
Safe operation of the current Navy lighterage system can be performed in Sea State 3 and below. At present, sea state estimation is made by Navy personnel and is dependent on their level of experience.Creare proposes to develop a Sea State Predictor (SSP) to provide a more accurate and reliable determination of the current sea state. The system relies on measurement of heave of the warping tug as it is driven directly into the prevailing seas at a constant speed. The resulting heave measurements of the tug are then used to determine the current sea state. Creare’s SSP is designed to be a stand-alone unit that offers convenient mounting options. The system leverages off-the-shelf hardware components to reduce development risk and reduce cost and required development time.
