Description

Ceramics, Composites and Coatings, Inc., (3CInc) proposes to incorporate off-the-shelf and advanced metal reinforcing elements into rapid setting concrete materials to assist the Air Force in Rapid Runway Repair. By teaming with METSS Corp, the company currently developing a solution to this problem under an AF Phase 2 SBIR contract entitled, Fast-Setting, High Strength Materials for Expedient Pavement Repair, 3CInc’s approach can be deployed quickly in the field for thorough testing and evaluation under this AF Special topic. In particular, this Phase 1 effort will demonstrate improved adhesion to the existing damaged pavement, less shrinkage of the pavement patch, and potentially higher flexural and compressive strengths. Field interviews with AF pavement repair crews and with METSS engineers are also planned during the 2-month Phase 1 period. The Phase 2 program will build upon the results of Phase 1 by expanding the size and number of lab-tested pieces as well as move the technology quickly into the field for repair trials and testing of patches in the field.
