Description
Opioids are a class of drug compounds that pose lethal threats to the warfighter even in small quantities. However, the rapid identification of opioid intoxication in individuals before the onset of more deleterious and lethal effects remains a foundational gap in clinical diagnosis and sensing technology. Current diagnosis in the field relies almost entirely on buddy aid, leaving a strong need for a passive, wearable sensing system capable of rapid and differential diagnosis during in-theatre operations. Clear Scientific proposes to develop a wearable sensor system capable of real-time diagnosis and quantification of opioid intoxication and severity. The system will utilize non-invasive, commercially available wearable sensor technology, and directly monitor biological signals that provide instantaneous feedback of opioid intoxication in human pathology. The readout will be configured to provide toxicity-based alerts, and will be capable of integration with medical countermeasure automated-delivery devices.
