Description
During the ongoing Army Phase I SBIR, Dirac Solutions Inc. (DSI) has successfully developed prototype RF transceivers based on advanced pulse based wideband (WB) and software-defined-radio (SDR) technologies. DSI’s novel pulse based WB wireless video communications system permitted DSI to perform RF waveform design to address the Army’s need for reliable wireless video links in the presence of strong electromagnetic interference (EMI). These radios have demonstrated a high degree of success with respect to RS-103 interference tolerance based on preliminary test data. Furthermore, DSI’s second radio prototype system based on SDR technology has allowed flexibility for on-the-fly power management and offers an optimal platform for future strong encryption algorithms. The goal of the proposed Phase II proposal is to combine the successful results of the Phase I efforts to develop a novel system that integrates the proven resilience of pulse based WB signaling with SDR technology. The proposed WB-SDR system offers a highly secure wireless voice/data/video communications system with real-time power management capability to allow the system to be used in combat zones (outside FCC limits) for longer distances as well as the rest of the world (under FCC regulations) for up to 250 ft.
