Low Earth Orbit (LEO) is undergoing rapid change, with billions in new investment being injected to deliver revolutionary new services (e.g., imaging, broadband, defense). Mega-constellations of small satellites will reshape LEO demographics. Growth is international as worldwide commercial space ventures compete for a place in the emerging LEO economy. Against this backdrop is a new generation of risks and opportunities that must be addressed to preserve LEO for continued “safety of flight� and national security, balanced with commercial space operations economic growth potential. The primary risk is the threat of collisions posed by space debris. 100,000s of pieces of debris exist today with sufficient energy on impact to destroy satellites and disrupt critical services. As the pace of technological innovation accelerates, so too do challenges to the current traditional space situational awareness systems. DSoft Technology is a 21-year innovative information technology provider to Government, engineering web-based solutions for testing and disseminating the Standardized Astrodynamic Algorithms Library. LeoLabs is the only commercial company that owns its own radars capable of tracking LEO objects.
