Description
The USAF recognizes the potential of Additive Manufacturing (AM) to replace current forging and machining processes to produce landing gear parts of equal or improved strength, weight, and corrosion resistance. ES3 will demonstrate AM feasibility for landing gear, manufacture and qualify an AM landing gear part, and commercialize AM for landing gear. Phase I focuses on suitable AM processes and materials for landing gear with a feasibility evaluation for design, analysis, AM materials, AM processing, post processing, NDI, qualification, and facility requirements for AM landing gear parts. Based on our industry involvement, ES3 believes that the feasibility study will support pursuit of Phase II funding for rapid development and qualification of this emerging technology. Final commercialization is realized with an AM production specification and AM production parts.
