Description
Freedom Photonics will develop a fully integrated silicon-photomultiplier (SiPM) based optical receiver that is designed for airborne oceanographic LIDAR applications. The optical receiver will have signal conditioning electronics such as transimpedance amplifiers, comparators and discriminators as well as a degree of digital electronics such as counters. This level of integration will make the end product easier to incorporate into the user’s final system compared to discrete electronics. The ultimate goal of this program and beyond is to develop a viable solid-state blue-green LIDAR system with performance that rivals and exceeds traditional PMT based systems.
