Description
To address the Air Force Test Center (AFTC) need for a diffuser screen to combine the scenes from several scene projectors, Luminit, Government Services, LLC (LGS), proposes to develop a new Diffuser-based Scene Combiner (DiSC). This proposed component is based on our extension of Luminit, LLC, Light Shaping Diffusers® to different environments, combining mature and innovative LGS components into a diffuser screen for AFTC use. The DiSC will provide a scene combiner screen, transmissive or reflective, that operates in the MWIR and/or LWIR, with the maximum throughput and minimum aberration possible for such a system. It will operate in a severe cryovacuum environment and have a longevity of at least 30 operational cycles. Thus, the DiSC meets the AFTC requirements. In Phase I, LGS will demonstrate the feasibility of the DiSC by a combination of computer modeling, materials validation, and demonstration of a laboratory prototype. In Phase II, LGS plans to optimize the DiSC screen, developing a 4×4-inch engineering prototype that can be tested in the AFTC space simulation sensor test setup at Arnold Air Force Base.
