Description

In order to address the improvised threat to U.S. Forces created by enemy drones, IMSAR proposes to use its Commercial, Off-The-Shelf (COTS) NSP-3 Ku-band radar as the foundation for a system architecture capable of detecting, tracking, and neutralizing enemy drones. With low Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) requirements, the NSP-3 can provide high capabilities to even small Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) platforms and can see through obscurants such as dust, rain, fog, snow, and smoke. The standard, two-pod configuration of the NSP-3 is easily integrated onto a variety of platforms and provides high-resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging, Coherent Change Detection (CCD), and Moving Target Indication (MTI) capabilities to those platforms. The proposed effort seeks to research, simulate, and flight test the NSP-3 system to determine the modifications to the system required to optimize it for detecting and tracking airborne targets of interest. The proposed effort will also demonstrate the ability of the NSP-3 system to detect and track airborne targets of interest and to communicate that data to other airborne assets that can be used to neutralize the enemy drone.
