Description
The aircraft environment poses extreme stresses on connector performance and can degrade network performance before system detection. IFOS proposes to leverage on its directly related experience in advanced optical transceivers for DWDM as well as optical networking architectures to implement distributed built-in-test (BIT) capability into aircraft networks for real-time measurement of optical loss, polarization extinction, crosstalk, and other important parameters. For this purpose, the same wavelength used for digital/analog signal communication will be used for network performance monitoring purposes based on software-controlled algorithms. IFOS plans to employ the existing commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components and modules to lower the cost and accelerate transition.
