Description
To address the Army’s need for a cost effective, millimeter-wave communication system for use in Anti-Access and Area of Denial (A2AD) environments, Intellisense Systems, Inc. (ISI) proposes to develop a new extremely high-bandwidth Covert Millimeter-Wave Link (COMWEL) system. COMWEL is based on an optimized waveform design that allows for use of the large allocated bandwidths to create high data rate communication links while ensuring covertness using various methods that minimize the probability of interception or detection (LPI/LPD). The COMWEL design integrates state-of-the-art technologies and is enhanced by application-specific techniques including waveform, beamforming, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), frequency agility, modulation and coding, adaptive equalization and precoding to ensure reliable communication and to guard against interference, interception, detection, and jamming. COMWEL adapts the communication link parameters to the channel conditions and maintains secure high-bandwidth data link between stationary and/or on-the-move systems in contested/congested environments. In Phase I, ISI will investigate the latest millimeter-wave technologies along with anti-jamming and LPI/LPD techniques, simulate possible technologies, and develop a system architecture that leverages the best of these to maintain a reliable covert link. In Phase II, ISI plans to develop and deliver a system prototype of the Phase I concept and demonstrate its performance.
