Description

To address the Air Force need for a field of light display (FOLD) for air, space, and cyber battle management, Intellisense Systems, Inc. (ISI) proposes to develop a new Holographic Laser Optics Field of Light Display (HoloFOLD) system based on a unique integration of low-cost high-definition laser picoprojectors with waveguide holographic optics. The innovation in the use of laser projectors, waveguide holographic optics for collimation, and holographic element (hogel) micro lens array light field generation from a single flat integrated photonics component will allow system light engine to be low profile (<6 in.) and scalable in display area size from small monitor to large wall-size display. The low-cost producibility of holographic optics developed and matured by ISI over many years will overcome the high-cost barrier of current state-of-the art FOLD visualization systems. In Phase I, ISI will design a compact full-color video-rate HoloFOLD system capable of presenting high-resolution imagery in full parallax over a wide field of view. In Phase II, ISI will fabricate and test a prototype HoloFOLD system capable of meeting Air Force requirements. The prototype’s scalability to wall size will be demonstrated, and a road map for Phase IIe/Phase III development will be established.
