Description

To address the Army PEO Aviation need for secure architecture concepts and components for development of common avionics display technologies, Intellisense Systems, Inc. (ISI) proposes to develop a new Secure Modular Architecture for Reusable Transfer of Display Data (SMART-2D) that implements Future Airborne Capabilities Environment (FACE)-conformant widgets using ARINC-661 over ARINC-664 switched network information exchange backbone to bypass the GPU to securely transfer data. Specifically, the innovative use of ARINC-661 and FACE Units of Portability (UoPs) to achieve severability from federated aircraft GPUs and the use of ARINC-664 to support domain separation and decouple the display system from core aircraft avionics allows mobile device connectivity to the display. As a result, SMART-2D also supports interoperability with other aircraft and disparate display systems, thus decoupling the display system from the core aircraft avionics. In Phase I, ISI plans to design and demonstrate the secure data transfer of mobile device display data through modular reusable means to a broad set of display technologies. This will lead to developing FACE UoPs that will be constructed in Phase II, as ISI develops a fully functional prototype and tests it with multiple avionics vendors to verify interoperability with multiple display implementations and avionics suites.
