Description
To address the DHS need for a module that can power/charge and provide effective power management of all on-body electronics including sensors, communications systems, and peripheral devices for all first responder mission areas, Intellisense Systems, Inc. (ISI) proposes to develop a new Power and Rechargeable Battery Interface Smart Module (PRISM). This proposed technology is based on a novel modular design allowing interfacing to PAN electronics, devices, and interchangeable batteries. Due to its modular design, PRISM enables customizable use by different first responder groups (fire, police, and emergency medical services) and integration of a new end-user app provides system control and smart power monitoring and alerting to reduce user burden. In Phase I, ISI will develop an architecture for PRISM based on the Next Generation First Responder handbook and future power requirements, and develop a design for a proof-of-concept prototype including definition of its size and form factor. ISI will develop a cost model to determine the approximate costs of each of the two PRISM variants (intrinsically safe and standard). In Phase II, we will develop a minimum of 10 standard and 5 intrinsically-safe power modules. We will perform detailed testing in a laboratory environment and field demonstration. The successful completion of this project at the end of Phase III will benefit both government and commercial sectors by providing a lower cost and more efficient means to power body worn electronic devices, which are proliferating. Commercial applications for PRISM include use for oil and gas exploration, and mining.
