Description

To address the Army’s need for a mobile and rapidly deployable radar signature collection system to cost effectively acquire target in background radar cross section (RCS) data, Intellisense Systems, Inc. (ISI) proposes to develop a new Mobile Aerial Radar Signature Scanner (MARSS) based on the novel integration of mature components including fully polarimetric miniature monostatic radars in X-band up to W-band, advanced sensors for precision tracking of target/background collection geometries, and scanner flight automation software. This comprehensive integrated design will enable the MARSS system to rapidly and accurately scan multiple target angles in a cluttered background. All components are packaged into a small size, weight, and power (SWaP) package suitable for mobile data collection. As a result, this technology offers a rapidly deployable and automated SAR imagery capability for targets in background with great mobility, which meets the Army requirements. In Phase I, ISI will demonstrate the feasibility of MARSS technology by conducting a trade study resulting in a preliminary design that establishes the baseline target-in-background signature measurement capability. In Phase II, ISI plans to design, develop, and demonstrate a full MARSS prototype system capable of acquiring, calibrating, and processing RCS imagery at desired bands of military type ground systems.
