Description
To address the Army’s need for a tactical vehicle head-up display, Intellisense Systems, Inc. (ISI) proposes to develop a new Tactical Augmented-Reality Situational Awareness Head-Up Display (TARAHUD) based on multi-aperture tiled digital micromirror device (DMD) miniature projectors coupled to space-saving, highly efficient planar image combiner optics, driven by an ISI-developed low-latency video parsing solution. The novel use of tiled DMD projector technology, compact collimating optics, and a see-through planar combiner will provide an enhanced 20/20 visual acuity performance with high definition (2k×2k) imagery and tactical information content equivalent to state-of-the-art fielded HUDs but in a smaller, flip-down form-factor applicable to a variety of Army tactical vehicles. The TARAHUD system offers a scalable long-life display with footprint dimensions under 12 in. × 10 in. and the capability to display >4 Megapixel resolution at >40° field of view with visual acuity beyond 20/20 vision. In Phase I, ISI will conduct a trade study and research and develop designs including commercial off-the-shelf modifications, and demonstrate TARAHUD’s concept feasibility through performance simulations and laboratory modeling. In Phase II, an initial prototype display system will be developed and test fitted for integration into multiple military vehicles in field environments, using HD sensor and AR data.
