Description
To address the Air Force’s need for a secure wireless data transfer system to link and transmit data within and around a given radius of an aircraft's cockpit, Intellisense Systems, Inc. (ISI) proposes to develop a new Secure Short-range Wireless Communication (SESWIC) system operating in the millimeter-wave spectrum. SESWIC is a novel design of a high-bandwidth low-EMI RF communication system with wireless network support, built on a unique integration of state-of-the art commercial 60 GHz WiGig integrated circuits. The implementations of adaptive beamforming network and a smart antenna array provide uninterrupted, duplex, low-BER, low-latency communication links that significantly reduce system complexity and cost and enhance system safety by eliminating interconnect cables and connectors. SESWIC enables transfer of secure video, tracker, text, and control data between the aircraft and ground crew and inside the cockpit using strong encryption. The low-power compact SESWIC system integrates electronic system-in-package modules in a ruggedized ultra-light housing made of composite material. In Phase I, ISI will develop a SESWIC system concept and demonstrate its feasibility through study, modeling, simulation, and experimentation. In Phase II, ISI will develop and deliver a system prototype of the Phase I concept and demonstrate its operation in a relevant environment.
