Description
To address the Navy need for an intermediate augmented reality (AR) capability that enhances situational awareness for the dismounted warfighters, Intellisense Systems, Inc. (ISI) proposes to develop the new See-Through Enhanced Vision Augmented-Reality Head-Mounted Display (SEVAR-HMD) based on an innovative modification of a commercially available augmented reality (AR) head-up display (HUD) with improvements realizable in near-term, providing an intermediate see-through AR-HUD compatible with existing soldier helmet and equipment, and interfaceable with soldier’s tablet and display specialized software. The use of a standard spherical visor see-through lens with spectral enhancement coating and high-brightness display light source with all-reflective projection optics makes SEVAR-HMD the size of standard issue dismounted warfighter safety goggles with see-through vision enhanced capability for indoor/outdoor operations, lacking in commercial AR-HUDs. In Phase I, ISI will analyze the architectures and capabilities of existing HMDs and develop a detailed architectural description and identify all primary functional elements. In Phase II, ISI will develop the SEVAR-HMD prototype compatible with current Program of Record individual protective equipment, building on selected display solution with situational awareness enhancements, optimized on key features. The prototype will be available for testing within 12 months.
