Description

To address the Air Force need for a personal display that eliminates visual eavesdropping, Intellisense Systems, Inc. (ISI) proposes to develop a new Direct-Write Access-Restricted Retina Display (DWARD) device based on a new low profile, wide field-of-view, off-axis, reflective elliptical scanning optics design that synergistically integrates a commercial laser scanning picoprojector with a miniature near infrared camera into a single head-mounted wearable device. The innovation in the design allows the two components to work in concert, utilizing the same common scanning optics, to provide a continuous identification of the user via the retina identification and to allow image transfer to the display by direct writing without an intermediate display screen, eliminating visual eavesdropping. DWARD will provide wide FOV see-through virtual HD resolution imagery with high RGB color gamut only to the authorized person’s eye while he/she is using it. In Phase I, ISI will design the proposed display technology capable of transmitting data without visual eavesdropping and the retinal identification technology, and demonstrate integration of the two via a breadboard prototype. In Phase II, ISI will develop a prototype DWARD system and demonstrate the positive identification and transfer of information to an authorized individual without visual eavesdropping.
