Koolock Inc. — Department of Defense SBIR Phase I: AF182-001

Description

Koolock is a small-satellite based remote sensing company planning to address U.S. Air Force needs with its proposed commercial Infrared satellite constellation that will incorporate next-generation satellite-based IR sensing technology. Koolock proposes to provide a wide range of uses for the U.S. Government. Koolock’s main focus is to propose a solution for the top two U.S. Government identified weather gaps: Weather Gap 1 (cloud characterization) and Weather Gap 2 (theater weather imagery) in the Space Based Environmental Monitoring (SBEM) platform, with higher refresh rates. Koolock is positioned to leverage commercially developed technology to fill these major SBEM weather gaps and can adapt its technology to meet additional USAF needs through the further development of its dual-use solutions. The benefit of dual-use solutions to the SBEM Gaps 1 and 2 needs means the USAF can leverage commercial investment and customers to provide a more cost-effective solution than is traditionally available to the U. S. Government. The goal of Phase I is to conduct a feasibility study that investigates adopting commercial solutions to the U.S. Government needs. Additionally, the study will provide an analysis of developmental and implement changes needed to fill capability gaps in the existing family of satellite systems.
