Description
The objective of the transition effort is to establish an on-aircraft corrosion risk mitigation tool for in-service evaluation of new non-chromate corrosion protection coatings and generate the necessary approval documentation to enable sustainment modifications for long-term system installation. The HH-60W is currently carrying “moderate Program/Airworthiness risk by using a non-chromate coating system in inaccessible interior spaces until approximately 2025 when enough field data would be collected to verify original assessment results. The risk to Program/Airworthiness will be reduced through continuous on-aircraft monitoring of corrosion severity and automated coating system performance quantification. The monitoring system will be an integral enabling component in realizing reliability and maintainability targets and risk reduction associated with the use of non-chromate coatings. The system will also validate that the HH-60W design for sealants, drainage, and minimization of moisture and contaminant intrusion are effective.
